PLC President: Armed Forces Capable of Regaining Initiative and Ending Houthi Threat

President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), affirmed the Yemeni people’s confidence in their armed forces and their ability to regain the initiative and extend their control over the entire national territory.

The President made the remarks today during a meeting with British Ambassador to Yemen Ms. Abda Sharif.

He said international support for the Yemeni government, armed forces, and popular resistance represents the most sustainable path to ending the Houthi threat backed by the Iranian regime.

He stressed that the armed forces and all military formations have demonstrated a high level of efficiency in responding to the Houthi escalation on multiple fronts. They have moved from containing terrorist attacks to regaining the initiative and restoring deterrence.

He noted that developments along the western coast represented a difficult test. However, the armed forces maintained their cohesion and turned those developments into an opportunity to regain the initiative and unite their ranks.

He said Taiz had become a graveyard for the militias, just as Marib, Al-Dhalea, and other governorates had before it.

The PLC President renewed his warning against continuing to deal with the Houthi militias through a policy of containment. He said experience has shown that de-escalation that does not prevent rearmament ultimately leads to new rounds of violence and destruction.

President Al-Alimi affirmed that sustainable security in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab depends on the existence of a strong Yemeni state capable of exercising control over its territory, coasts, and territorial waters.

He stressed that supporting the armed forces in restoring national institutions “is not an investment in Yemen’s security alone, but also in the security of global trade, energy, and interests.”

The President called on the international community to build on the latest stances of the UN Security Council and the Group of Seven (G7).

He called for moving beyond the condemnation of Iranian support for the Houthi militias and taking more effective measures to enforce the arms embargo.

He also called for pursuing smuggling and financing networks, as well as the transfer of military technology.

In this context, President Al-Alimi commended Britain’s active role in supporting the Yemeni government and the positions it has adopted at the UN Security Council, as well as its consultations with international partners.

He particularly welcomed Britain’s efforts to hold the Houthi militias responsible for the escalation and to affirm the right of the Republic of Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to deter threats and protect their security and sovereignty in accordance with international law.

The PLC President also commended Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role and its continued support for the Yemeni government and people. He also praised Saudi Arabia’s economic, humanitarian, and development assistance, as well as its support for the reform program and efforts to improve basic services for citizens across the governorates.

For her part, Ambassador Sharif briefed President Al-Alimi on British support for relief and humanitarian response efforts in Yemen. She affirmed her country’s continued support for the Yemeni people and efforts to alleviate their humanitarian suffering.

Ambassador Sharif also reiterated Britain’s firm stance in support of the Yemeni people and their political leadership. She also confirmed her country’s backing for efforts to address the current challenges, foremost among them protecting Red Sea security and freedom of international navigation.
