President Al- Alimi and Council member Aidarous al-Zubaidi participate in the opening session of The UN General Assembly

His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Council member Aidarous al-Zubaidi, participated in the opening session of the general debate of the seventy-eighth session of the General Assembly (UNGA), which commenced today, Tuesday, in New York City, in the presence of world leaders, heads of governments, and representatives of regional and international organizations.

The Yemeni delegation to the current session of the General Assembly includes Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ahmed bin Mubarak, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Abdullah Al-Saadi., and Yemen's Ambassador to the United States, Mohammed Al-Hadhrami.

His Excellency the President of the Presidential Leadership Council will deliver the speech of the Republic of Yemen to the United Nations summit next Thursday. In his speech, he will address the latest developments in the national situation and the council and government's vision regarding opportunities for achieving permanent and comprehensive peace based on nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed-upon terms of reference. Additionally, he will discuss the position on some regional and international developments.

The opening session began with speeches by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and the current President of the General Assembly, Dennis Francis, as part of the general political discussions of the important international event.

Afterward, and in accordance with the long-standing traditions of annual meetings, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and U.S. President Joseph Biden delivered speeches.

This session of the General Assembly (UNGA 78) will be held under the theme, “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and the sustainability for all.”
