Presidential Leadership Council Discusses Regional Escalation, Adopts Measures to Deter Threats
Riyadh
The Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) convened on Saturday evening under the chairmanship of President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Council. The meeting was attended by Council members Sultan Al-Aradah, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, and Salem Al-Khanbashi, while members Tareq Saleh, Othman Mujalli, and Mahmoud Al-Subaihi participated via videoconference. Council member Abdulrahman Al-Muharrami was absent with prior excuse.
The meeting, which was also attended by Prime Minister Dr. Shai’a Mohsen Al-Zindani, was dedicated to reviewing national developments and the required government measures at all levels. It also discussed regional developments—foremost among them the unprecedented military escalation in the region and its repercussions for international peace and security.
The Council reviewed the general situation in the interim capital, Aden, and the liberated governorates, including progress made toward recovery and normalization of conditions. It commended the efforts of the government, local authorities, and the security and military institutions to enhance security and stability, preserve public tranquility, and improve citizens’ living and service conditions, with support from brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The PLC reaffirmed its full support for the government’s financial, administrative, and institutional reform measures, notably the approval of the state’s general budget for the first time in years. The Council described this step as essential to strengthening financial discipline, enhancing transparency, improving public spending efficiency, and restoring the confidence of citizens and the donor community in state institutions.
It stressed that the continuation of these reforms constitutes a key entitlement in the battle to restore state institutions, achieve economic stability, and fortify the domestic front against current regional challenges.
In this context, the Council renewed its appreciation for the steadfast stances of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, alongside the Yemeni people and their political leadership at various stages. The Council welcomed the new economic support package amounting to SAR 1.3 billion to cover state employees’ salaries and enhance stability and economic recovery in the country.
The Council was briefed on an assessment of the repercussions of the dangerous military escalation in the region, including Iranian attacks on the sovereignty of several brotherly states, following U.S. and Israeli strikes on sites belonging to the Iranian regime, and the implications of these developments for national, regional, and international security and peace.
In this regard, the Council reiterated the Republic of Yemen’s strongest condemnation of the blatant and cowardly Iranian attacks targeting the territories and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.
The PLC affirmed Yemen’s full solidarity with the brotherly states and its support for all measures they undertake to safeguard their national security, sovereignty, stability, and territorial integrity.
The Council held the Iranian regime fully responsible for any consequences arising from these flagrant attacks and for squandering opportunities for de-escalation and good neighborliness. It called on the international community to adopt a firm stance against Iran’s repeated violations of the sovereignty of UN member states and to act to deter any behavior that could ignite a wider confrontation with catastrophic consequences for the region and the world.
The Council also renewed its warning to the Houthi militias against engaging in this dangerous military escalation and dragging Yemen and its people into the furnace of a devastating international war. It reaffirmed the Republic of Yemen’s rejection of the use of its territory as a platform for cross-border terrorist attacks carried out by proxy on behalf of the Iranian regime.
The Council further listened to a military briefing on the situation across the theater of operations and the level of combat readiness to confront all potential escalation scenarios. It commended the high vigilance demonstrated by the armed forces and security services in countering attacks by the Houthi militias and affiliated terrorist organizations, and in thwarting their repeated attempts to breach the domestic front and exacerbate the prolonged suffering of the Yemeni people.
The meeting also discussed possible local and regional scenarios and the available options for addressing them optimally, adopting the necessary decisions and recommendations accordingly.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency.
