His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, reiterated his call to the international community to designate the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization. This designation is part of a comprehensive deterrence policy aimed at pushing the group to engage seriously in efforts for a just and lasting peace.

During a session organized by the Council on Foreign Relatkions (CFR) in New York, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council underscored the dangers posed by the Houthi militia's connections and alliances with terrorist organizations both inside and outside Yemen, in addition to their involvement in arms smuggling networks in the region.

His Excellency the President shared his vision regarding the international coalition's response to Houthi attacks on commercial shipping, expressing hope to move from the ‏existing containment policy to deterrent measures and strategic partnerships that would prevent other terrorist organizations to avoid adopting the same approach.

In this context, he explained that despite the international community's efforts to address the threat posed by the Safer oil tanker in previous years, "we now find ourselves facing a similar risk with every tanker and vessel passing through the Red Sea due to the Houthi militia's terrorist attacks."

His Excellency the President clarified that the belief that the Houthi militia's terrorist attacks are linked to the Israeli war on our Palestinian brothers, and that ending these attacks depends on a ceasefire in Gaza, is a common misconception.

He added, "After the Red Sea has been militarized, and international trade, maritime routes, and the environment have been exploited for extortion, this will never stop and will continue in the future by Iran and its affiliated militias."

The President affirmed that ending the Houthi militia's coup and restoring state institutions will remain a top priority for the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, and the Yemeni people.

At the same time, he stressed the commitment of the Council and the government to a just and lasting peace based on the agreed-upon references, including international legitimacy resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216.

His Excellency the President outlined the significant political, military, security, economic, and social challenges facing the Yemeni government due to the Iran- backed Houthi coup. He stressed the role of the brothers and friends in supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to overcome such challenges. In this context, he highlighted the stances of the brothers in the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, who have been very helpful and supportive for Yemen in various stages and circumstances.
