Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi attended Thursday the festival held by US embassy in Yemen on the Occasion of the 64th Ceremony of opening the first US diplomatic mission in Yemen.

President al-Alimi toured the gallery of the memorial photos, which document a significant stage of diplomatic relations between the two friendly countries enhanced by the opening of US Commission in Taiz City on March, 16, 1959 as the first diplomatic mission in Yemen.

Welcoming President al-Alimi, US Ambassador to Yemen Steven Fagin confirmed commitment of his country in supporting Yemen, its people and its political leadership until realizing people's aspirations in peace and stability through inclusive political process under sponsorship of the UN.

The US diplomat called upon Houthi militia to prove its readiness to honestly enter the negotiations and end its siege on oil exports, which represent 70 percent of public resources.

In his speech, the US ambassador welcomed regional and international efforts aimed at ending the war and human suffering, noting that the countries of the region had a duty to further these efforts at a time when the parties should reach the necessary difficult compromises to achieve peace, stressing that Yemeni people deserve a just and comprehensive solution to the conflict that claimed almost 400,000 Yemenis’ lives and made most Yemenis reliant on humanitarian aid.

The US ambassador stressed the need for a just end to the conflict in addition to freedom to the 11 current and former US embassy staff in Sana'a, who have been arrested by the militias for more than 15 months for nothing.

Regarding the US support for Yemen, Fagin stressed that his country will continue supporting Yemen and Yemeni  people during this difficult time , noting that The U.S. government had provided more than $1 billion in fiscal year 2022 to the Yemen humanitarian response..

He stated "We will fulfil our commitment that we made at the donors' conference held recently in Geneva that the United States would give $444 million in humanitarian assistance to Yemen this year, and we will continue with our development programs for Yemen, including programs to strengthen government's capacity in delivering services to citizens,".

He added "The United States is committed to continued collaboration with Yemeni government against al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and other terrorist threats,"
