PLC President Launches Relief Projects from King Salman Center to Bolster Taiz’s Resilience and Assist Affected People
Riyadh
President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), visited the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) today, Tuesday. His Excellency was received by Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief, Mohammed Saeed Al Jaber, Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, and a number of the Center’s senior officials and partners in relief and humanitarian work.
During the visit, the PLC President toured several departments and sections of KSrelief, where he received a briefing on the Center’s leading humanitarian and development activities and interventions in Yemen and around the world. These covered health, food security and agriculture, shelter, humanitarian operations coordination, water and sanitation, education, early recovery, and logistics. The Center’s interventions have cost approximately $8.638 billion, including around 1,238 projects in Yemen worth $4.8 billion.
During his meeting with the Center’s leadership, President Al-Alimi expressed the Yemeni people’s profound appreciation and gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of his brother, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Prime Minister, as well as to the generous Saudi people and government. He praised the Kingdom’s steadfast fraternal support for the Yemeni people and their political leadership, as well as its efforts to alleviate the humanitarian suffering inflicted by the Houthi terrorist militias.
The PLC President commended the efforts of KSrelief under the leadership of its Supervisor General, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, and all its staff in ensuring that humanitarian, relief, and shelter assistance reaches those in need throughout Yemen, without exception.
President Al-Alimi also highly valued the various interventions, projects, initiatives, and activities implemented by KSrelief to support affected communities across all Yemeni governorates. He further praised the Kingdom’s generous economic and development assistance through the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen, noting its tangible impact, which will remain etched in the Yemeni people’s collective memory.
In this regard, the President praised the efforts of the MASAM Project for Landmine Clearance in Yemen and its pivotal role in saving thousands of lives from mines planted by the Houthi terrorist militias, helping restore the safe use of land and enabling people to regain their livelihoods. He expressed his hope that the program would continue and expand its far-reaching humanitarian role, describing it as a long-term investment in the lives of the Yemeni people.
The PLC President also expressed his deep appreciation for the activities of the Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Program, supported by KSrelief, and the specialized free services it provides to people with mobility disabilities.
President Al-Alimi addressed the escalating humanitarian suffering caused by the war unleashed by the Houthi terrorist militias. Foremost among these is the dire situation facing residents of Taiz, who continue to endure the unjust siege imposed by the militias on millions of people, depriving them of access to water, food, and medicine. He also highlighted the additional needs of more than a quarter of a million displaced people who were forced to flee their homes in areas infiltrated by the terrorist militias.
For his part, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief, affirmed in his welcoming remarks that Yemen has always been the Center’s foremost humanitarian priority in its efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
Dr. Al-Rabeeah noted that Saudi Arabia’s diverse assistance to Yemen over the past decade has exceeded $29 billion. He stressed that KSrelief had made no distinction between Yemen’s regions and governorates or among segments of the Yemeni population in delivering its assistance.
He explained that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince have directed the Center, with the launch of Dawn of Yemen Operation to restore the Yemeni state, to increase humanitarian assistance to all parts of Yemen, particularly displacement areas and the most vulnerable communities. He said the launch of the new package of projects reflected the continuation of this support for the Yemeni people.
The Supervisor General also highlighted the major challenges facing humanitarian operations in Yemen due to Houthi intransigence. These include obstructing aid deliveries, detaining humanitarian workers, particularly United Nations personnel, and targeting aid supplies and civilians, especially women and children.
Dr. Al-Rabeeah called on the United Nations and the international community to put an end to these violations, which have exacerbated the suffering of the Yemeni people and turned Yemen into one of the countries most in need of humanitarian assistance.
During the visit, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi launched nine relief and humanitarian projects. These included an emergency response project to provide food baskets across Yemen; the sixth phase of the emergency shelter plan to distribute shelter kits and tents; two emergency response projects in Lahj Governorate to provide drinking water for displaced people and support water and sanitation. It also included hygiene services; and two projects to provide drinking water for displaced people in Taiz and Aden governorates.
The projects also included the provision of medicines, medical supplies, and equipment for the Ministry of Public Health and Population, as well as urgent relief for residents of Taiz city. The emergency assistance includes food baskets, infant formula, medicines, and essential medical supplies. The projects also included the construction of a residential complex for displaced people in Hajjah Governorate, comprising 232 homes, public service facilities, and solar power systems for the housing units.
The President also launched 100 Saudi volunteer projects across Yemen’s governorates. These include the Saudi Pulse programs for open-heart surgery and cardiac catheterization, Saudi Noor for blindness prevention, and Saudi Hearing for cochlear implantation and auditory rehabilitation, in addition to specialized surgeries, training, education, and economic empowerment initiatives.
President Al-Alimi was accompanied during the visit by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Salem Saleh bin Bureik, Yemen’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, State Minister and Walid Al-Abbarah, Supervisor of the Displacement and Irregular Migration Portfolio, and Othman Al-Hadi, Deputy Head of the Economic Team.
