PLC, Government Hold Joint Meeting on National Developments and Deterrence Measures

President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), chaired today Wednesday a joint meeting of the PLC and the government. It was attended by PLC members: Tariq Saleh, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, Othman Mujli, Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, and Salem Al-Khanbashi.

The meeting, attended by Prime Minister Dr. Shai’a Al-Zindani, focused on developments in the political, economic, and public services sectors. It also discussed the latest military and security developments amid the continued escalation by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias.

The meeting heard briefings from the Prime Minister, the Governor of the Central Bank, and the Minister of Finance on financial, economic, and public service performance indicators. The briefings also covered measures taken to implement sovereign decisions to combat smuggling, strengthen oversight, and secure control over land and sea entry points. They further addressed efforts to undermine the war economy operated by the militias and cut off their sources of funding and arms.

The meeting commended the government’s efforts in managing this exceptional phase, the regularity of its meetings inside Yemen. It praised the high level of capacity and efficiency the government has demonstrated in handling complex economic, public service, and security issues. It also praised the progress made in pursuing comprehensive reforms and maintaining financial and monetary stability. The meeting commended the implementation of the Council’s decisions and recommendations aimed at addressing existing shortcomings in public revenue collection and ensuring that the state gains access to its sovereign resources. These efforts are also intended to enable the state to meet its obligations to citizens.

The meeting expressed its profound appreciation for the generous and continued fraternal support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. It stressed that this support represents a key pillar of the government’s efforts to meet its essential obligations, foremost among them paying public-sector salaries, improving basic services, strengthening economic and financial stability, and alleviating the humanitarian suffering exacerbated by the war waged by the Houthi terrorist militias.

The meeting affirmed that the state would continue restoring its sovereign instruments and strengthening compliance with the sanctions regime, while protecting citizens, the private sector, food and medicine supplies, savings, and legitimate remittances.

The meeting also commended the unprecedented institutional harmony, teamwork, and mobilization of all available capabilities in support of the national battle to restore state institutions and end the suffering of the Yemeni people caused by the Houthi terrorist militias.

The meeting heard reports from the Ministers of Defense and Interior on the latest developments on the ground. The reports covered the level of readiness across various fronts and the measures taken to protect civilians, sovereign facilities, and national interests. They also addressed measures to deter threats.

The joint meeting of the PLC and the government commended the high level of efficiency demonstrated by the armed forces and security services in all their formations in confronting the Houthi militias and thwarting their plans. It also praised their efforts to thwart the plans of terrorist organizations cooperating with the militias to destabilize the country’s security and stability.

The meeting also noted the security and intelligence successes achieved in tracking and pursuing members of terrorist organizations. The latest of which was the security operation conducted by the Yemeni Counter-Terrorism Forces and the Joint Special Forces of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The operation resulted in the elimination of the spokesman for the terrorist ISIS organization, Abu Hudhaifa Al-Ansari.

The meeting directed that military, security, and intelligence readiness be maintained at the highest levels, while strengthening protection and early-warning measures and integrated deterrence.

In this context, the meeting stressed the strict implementation of measures to combat smuggling and secure control over land, sea, and air entry points, in accordance with the decisions of the PLC. It also called for the measures necessary to enhance coordination among government agencies and local authorities. These measures include dismantling smuggling, financing, and supply networks benefiting the Houthi militias and terrorist groups.

The PLC affirmed that smuggling has become a direct threat to national security and a source of depletion of state resources and financing of the militias’ war economy. This, it stressed, requires firm action against smuggling networks and accountability for those involved, as well as anyone who provides them with protection or facilitates their activities, regardless of their positions or capacities.

The meeting directed the government to continue implementing the approved measures according to clear priorities and specific timelines, with progress indicators and achieved results clearly identified. It also called for the necessary corrective measures to be taken in a manner that reinforces the principles of responsibility and accountability in implementing decisions.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Presidency Office, and Mr. Hossam Al-Sharjabi, Head of the Economic Team.
