President Al-Alimi and Djiboutian President Discuss Developments in Yemen and the Region

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met on Saturday with his brother, His Excellency President Ismail Omar Guelleh of the Republic of Djibouti, to discuss local and regional developments and issues of mutual concern.

During the meeting, attended by Presidential Leadership Council member Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, President Al-Alimi renewed his congratulations to President Guelleh on gaining the confidence of the Djiboutian people. He praised the achievements made by the brotherly country in recent years as a model of stability in the Horn of Africa region.

President Al-Alimi also expressed his deep appreciation for the warm reception and generous hospitality. He affirmed the depth of the historic relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples, and their role as a model of cooperation based on shared interests and a common destiny.

The two presidents reviewed bilateral relations and ways to develop them across various political, economic, and security fields. They also discussed mechanisms for activating cooperation frameworks between the two sides, foremost among them the Yemeni-Djiboutian Joint Committee.

President Al-Alimi praised the sincere fraternal stances of the Republic of Djibouti—its leadership, government, and people—in support of the Yemeni people, including hosting UN mechanisms related to the Yemeni file and providing facilities for the Yemeni community. He affirmed that these stances would remain a source of appreciation and gratitude for all Yemenis.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council briefed the Djiboutian president on developments in Yemen, including ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional cohesion, unify security and military decision-making. In addition, His Excellency briefed the Djiboutian President on the ongoing economic and service reforms, with substantial support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Both sides affirmed that the security of the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab constitutes a collective responsibility and a shared vital interest. They stressed the importance of enhancing regional coordination and cooperation to confront security challenges, combat terrorism and organized crime, and counter threats targeting international maritime navigation and global trade routes.

The two sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and international developments of mutual concern, particularly the situation in the Horn of Africa. President Al-Alimi commended Djibouti’s role in supporting peace and stability efforts in brotherly Somalia and its commitment to the country’s unity and sovereignty.

Both leaders underscored the importance of continuing consultation and coordination during the coming phase in a manner that enhances security and stability in the region and serves the interests and aspirations of its peoples for development and peace.

The meeting was attended by Maj. Gen. Mohammed Aidha, Head of the State Security Agency and Maj. Gen. Saleh Al-Maqaleh, Director of the Office of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council.
