The Presidential Leadership Council held a meeting today, Thursday, presided over by His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Council. The meeting was attended by Council members: Sultan Al-Aradah, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, and Othman Mujalli, while Tareq Saleh, Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, and Salem Al-Khanbashi participated via video conference.

The meeting reviewed the latest domestic developments at all levels, as well as escalating regional tensions and their implications for national and regional security and stability. It also addressed government measures aimed at mitigating their economic, humanitarian, and living impacts on citizens.

In light of these developments, the Council was briefed by Mr. Hossam Al-Sharjabi, the head of the economic team, on economic, financial, and monetary performance indicators, the progress of comprehensive reforms, and urgent measures by the Central Bank to address liquidity shortages while maintaining currency stability.

The Council approved a package of recommendations to adapt to regional and international changes, ensure the flow of essential goods, sustain basic services, and enable the state to meet its core obligations. It also emphasized efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people caused by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias.

The Council commended the government and the Central Bank for implementing its directives, as well as the integrated measures that led to the resumption of Article IV consultations with the International Monetary Fund after an 11-year suspension. This step reflects growing confidence in the government’s reform progress and a gradual recovery of the national economy from the deep recession that followed Houthi attacks on oil facilities.

It also welcomed the IMF’s endorsement of the consultation outcomes, describing them as a key gateway for reintegrating Yemen’s economy into the international financial system and enhancing the government’s creditworthiness among donors and investors. This, in turn, would help create a more favorable environment for external support and investment inflows.

Furthermore, the Council reviewed an assessment of the Houthi militia’s involvement in regional military escalation and its alignment with the Iranian regime. The Council warned against efforts to turn Yemen into a tool of regional leverage, which poses a direct threat to national security, international maritime safety, and prospects for stability and economic recovery.

The Council reiterated its warning to the Houthi militias regarding the consequences of their military adventurism in support of Iranian agendas, including attempts to use Yemeni territory to target commercial shipping and international interests. It described such actions as hostile acts against Yemen and a threat to its national interests and security.

The Council also renewed the Republic of Yemen’s condemnation of Iran’s blatant attacks on the sovereignty of Gulf Cooperation Council states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. It stressed the need for Iran to adhere to the declared truce, including the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and to abandon its hostile and expansionist policies by its terrorist militias.

The meeting also reviewed security assessments in several governorates and measures taken to strengthen security, counter terrorist threats, protect civilians, and safeguard public and private property.

The Council affirmed its full support for local authorities and security agencies in maintaining stability, strengthening state institutions. It called for solidarity and prioritizing national interests to mobilize all efforts toward restoring state institutions.

It also expressed deep appreciation for the continued support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in enhancing security, improving living conditions, and supporting the Yemeni people’s aspirations for stability, peace, and development.

The Council further reviewed and approved the minutes of its previous meeting and conducted a brief evaluation of the implementation of its decisions and recommendations in coordination with relevant authorities.
