Yemen’s Ambassador to the United States, Ms. Jamila Ali Raja, took the constitutional oath on Saturday before His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, at the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen in Riyadh.

This came on the occasion of her appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States of America.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, President Al-Alimi met with Ambassador Raja and congratulated her on gaining the trust of the leadership and her appointment as Yemen’s ambassador to Washington, noting that she is the first Yemeni woman to assume this position in the history of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council expressed confidence in Ambassador Raja’s ability to leverage her experience and intellectual and political background to effectively counter misleading Houthi narratives and present Yemen as an ancient nation reconciled with its regional and international environment.

President Al-Alimi urged the ambassador to fully assume her responsibilities in representing the Republic of Yemen as head of its diplomatic mission in Washington, in a manner that reflects the longstanding bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.

He underscored the vital role of diplomatic missions in reinforcing the national narrative in line with established references. He stressed that the situation in Yemen is not a political conflict, but rather an armed rebellion, a coup against consensus, and an existential threat to the national state project.

The President also highlighted the importance of building on the U.S. executive decision designating the Houthi militias as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, and intensifying maximum international pressure on them. He described them as among the most dangerous violent groups in the world, combining the theocratic ideology of the Iranian clerical regime, the extremism of terrorist organizations, and the racist doctrines associated with Nazi and fascist regimes.

He further emphasized the need to strengthen confidence with the donor community, resume U.S. institutional funding aimed at supporting recovery programs, and build advanced partnerships to support efforts to restore state institutions and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.

President Al-Alimi renewed his praise for the ongoing reforms within Yemen’s diplomatic corps. He stressed the importance of enhancing its role in mobilizing international support and maintaining global unity alongside the Yemeni people and their aspirations to restore state institutions and end the Houthi coup backed by the Iranian regime.

He also underlined the role of Yemeni embassies in constructively engaging with current developments and responding effectively to evolving challenges at all levels. He stressed the importance of promoting the state project that all Yemenis deserve, while exposing the Houthi militias’ grave human rights violations as a persistent threat to international peace and security.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency.
