Riyadh
The Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) convened on Sunday evening under the chairmanship of His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Council. The meeting was attended by its members Sultan Al-Arada, Abdulrahman Al-Muharrami, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, and Salem Al-Khanbashi. Members Tareq Saleh and Mahmoud Al-Subaihi participated via video conference, while Council member Othman Mujali was absent with prior excuse.
At the outset of the meeting, which was also attended via video conference by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Shai’a Al-Zindani, the Council extended its sincere congratulations and blessings to the Yemeni people at home and abroad, as well as to the Arab and Islamic nations, on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. The Council prayed that the blessed occasion would return with the Yemeni people having realized their aspirations to restore state institutions and end the coup backed by the Iranian regime.
The Council listened to a briefing from the President regarding his participation in the Munich Security Conference and his bilateral meetings with a number of leaders and heads of delegations from brotherly and friendly countries, as well as decision-makers. These engagements reflected Yemen’s growing presence as an active partner in regional and international security issues.
The meeting reviewed the latest developments in the interim capital, Aden, in light of recent events witnessed in the city, including attempts to attack state institutions, disrupt their work, and exploit the street as a pressure tool to achieve illegitimate political objectives.
The Council renewed the state’s commitment to responding firmly to any attempts to undermine its national institutions and affirmed that a comprehensive investigation would be launched into the incidents, with accountability for all those proven to have incited or financed them. It commended the high level of vigilance demonstrated by the armed and security forces in protecting civilians and public and private property, and in preserving civil peace and public tranquility.
In this context, the Council reiterated its high appreciation for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s approval of the request to host the Southern Dialogue Conference. He described it as an unprecedented and advanced approach to addressing the Southern issue as a just cause with historical and social dimensions requiring fair settlement within the framework of the state and its guaranteed references.
The Council warned against squandering this historic opportunity under the pressure of slogans or narrow considerations. He called for the protection of the gains achieved in the security, service, and economic aspects, and for drawing lessons from the reckless adventures of the Houthi militias, which have isolated more than 20 million Yemenis without salaries or opportunities for a dignified livelihood.
The Council also renewed its praise for the generous support provided by the Saudi Arabia to improve conditions in the liberated governorates, affirming its pride in the strategic partnership and the special, longstanding relations based on neighborhood, shared destiny, and mutual security. The Council congratulated the Saudi leadership on the occasion of Founding Day and on the comprehensive development and major transformations achieved across various sectors.
The Council further listened to a report from the Prime Minister on the general situation in the country and the support required to fulfill the government’s obligations toward citizens and to strengthen confidence with regional and international partners at all levels.
The report included preliminary indicators regarding the government’s work program for the current year, focusing on service and security sectors and alleviating the humanitarian suffering caused by the terrorist Houthi militias.
The Council affirmed its full support for the government and its empowerment to exercise its constitutional mandates. It also stressed the importance of moving forward with the implementation of the recovery plan and the comprehensive reform program. This includes accelerating the preparation of the draft general budget, improving revenues, advancing anti-corruption efforts, enhancing transparency and accountability, and implementing service projects with a direct impact on citizens’ lives.
The meeting also addressed regional developments amid the continued intransigence of the Iranian regime and its rogue militias in Yemen and the region toward ongoing de-escalation efforts, and the implications for national and regional security. The Council affirmed the state’s readiness to deter any potential threats in close coordination with the Coalition to Support Legitimacy and the international community.
The meeting discussed a number of items on its agenda, reviewed the implementation of its previous decisions and directives, and adopted the necessary resolutions and recommendations.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic.
