His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met on Sunday with Germany’s Federal Foreign Minister, Dr. Johann David Wadephul, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

The meeting addressed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries. They also discussed recent local developments and the required German and European interventions to support the Yemeni government’s efforts politically, security-wise, institutionally, economically, and developmentally.

During the meeting, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council expressed his high appreciation for Germany’s steadfast stance alongside Yemen and its people, and for its active role within the European Union. He commended Germany’s notable contributions in supporting the humanitarian response plan.

President Al-Alimi reaffirmed Yemen’s support for Germany’s legitimate aspiration for membership in the United Nations Security Council. He expressed his hope to expand the longstanding partnership from managing emergency needs to supporting state efforts to restore national institutions and end the humanitarian suffering caused by the terrorist Houthi militias backed by the Iranian regime.

He also expressed his aspiration to strengthen the historic partnership in the fields of security governance and institutional reform, and to restore the momentum of German development assistance. This includes activating technical cooperation and supporting public finance capacities, as well as the Central Bank in managing fiscal and monetary policy.

The President briefed the German Foreign Minister on the positive developments recently witnessed in Yemen, including the unification of political and military decision-making with sincere support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He also highlighted the end of the duality that had hindered state effectiveness, as well as the formation of a more representative government, including the appointment of three women to ministerial portfolios after years of exclusion.

President Al-Alimi refuted misleading narratives regarding the existence of a security vacuum following the termination of parallel unilateral measures. He clarified that what occurred was the restoration of state institutions to their natural function of monopolizing the use of force, and that the real vacuum arises when weapons are held outside state institutions.

He affirmed that unifying security leadership and ending grievances and human rights violations would enhance counterterrorism effectiveness and close the spaces exploited by extremist groups.

The President emphasized the German and European role in mobilizing efforts to end the Houthi threat and in supporting maximum pressure on the Iranian regime to dismantle its missile and drone systems. He warned that any leniency toward Iran’s armed proxies would mean continued blackmail of maritime corridors and energy supplies.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency; Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Mekhlafi, Economic Advisor to the President of the Presidential Leadership Council; and Mr. Louay Al-Eryani, Yemen’s Ambassador to Berlin.
