President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met on Saturday with Mr. Dick Schoof, Dutch Prime Minister on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

The meeting addressed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and prospects for their development at all levels. Discussions also covered the required Dutch and European support for the Yemeni government’s efforts to strengthen state institutions, restore economic recovery, and ensure the sustainability of basic services.

President Al-Alimi expressed his appreciation for the Netherlands’ longstanding stances and its notable development and humanitarian interventions, describing it as one of Yemen’s leading European donors over the past decades.

The President briefed the Dutch Prime Minister on the latest local developments, particularly the gains and transformations witnessed recently with the support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These include improvements in public services, progress in consolidating security, and the formation of a new government based on competence and broad national representation, including the appointment of three female ministers.

He affirmed that the government places transparency, financial discipline, and institutional reform at the forefront of its priorities to ensure that assistance implemented into tangible impact in citizens’ lives. He also expressed his aspiration for Dutch programs to support leadership capacity-building across various sectors.

President Al-Alimi commended the Dutch role within the European bloc in advocating for a firmer stance toward the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and efforts to designate it on European terrorist lists. He stressed that the Houthi militias represent one of Iran’s most dangerous regional proxies, warning that leniency would prolong the war and leave threats to regional security and the global economy unresolved.

The President called on the Netherlands to play a similar European role regarding the Houthis by expanding pressure measures and sanctions targeting financing and smuggling networks, and by supporting legal and financial accountability mechanisms against transnational networks linked to the militias.

He further urged the international community to adopt a new approach to ending the Houthi threat, based on intensified political, economic, and military pressure, and on leveraging sanctions as an effective deterrent to restore security, stability, and peace in Yemen and the region.

For his part, the Dutch Prime Minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, and the Yemeni people in achieving their aspirations. He also underscored the European Union’s direction toward designating the Houthi militias as a terrorist organization.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Makhlafi, the Economic Advisor to the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, and Mr. Louay Al-Eryani, Yemen’s Ambassador to Berlin.
