President Al-Alimi Reaffirms Yemen’s Firm Support for Sudan’s Unity, Sovereignty, and Territorial Integrity
Munich
President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met on Saturday with Mr. Kamil Idris Al-Tayeb, the Prime Minister of the brotherly Republic of Sudan, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
During the meeting, the Sudanese Prime Minister conveyed to the President the greetings of his brother, Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council. He also extended Al-Burhan’s wishes of good health and happiness to the President and members of the Presidential Leadership Council, and of security, peace, and stability to the Yemeni people.
For his part, President Al-Alimi asked the Sudanese Prime Minister to convey his greetings and those of the Council’s members to the Sudanese leadership. He wished them good health and well-being, expressing his hopes for security, peace, and stability for the brotherly Sudanese people.
The meeting reviewed the latest developments in the two brotherly countries, as well as the historic and fraternal relations, shared destiny, and the humanitarian and cultural ties between the Yemeni and Sudanese peoples, and ways to strengthen and develop them. Discussions also covered regional developments of mutual concern, including coordination of Arab positions to counter projects aimed at undermining the security and stability of regional states and their national security.
The President commended Sudan’s honorable stances alongside the Yemeni people and their political leadership, and its active role within the Coalition to Support Legitimacy led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He also praised Sudan’s significant sacrifices in confronting the coup project backed by the Iranian regime, which targeted the Yemeni state and regional security.
President Al-Alimi reaffirmed Yemen’s steadfast position in support of Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and its categorical rejection of any attempts to impose a fait accompli by force outside the framework of legitimate state institutions. He stressed that the Republic of Yemen views the developments in Sudan as an extension of a dangerous pattern involving the undermining of national states through the support of militias parallel to regular armed forces—the same model from which Yemen has suffered since the coup by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.
He further affirmed Yemen’s support for efforts aimed at enabling the Sudanese state to restore its constitutional institutions, extend full control over its territory, secure its sovereign institutions, and preserve regional security and the stability of the Red Sea.
In this context, the President praised the measures taken by the Sudanese government to preserve state institutions, strengthen the cohesion of its armed forces, and continue delivering basic services to citizens despite exceptional circumstances.
He underscored that restoring the institutional effectiveness of the Sudanese state constitutes a fundamental pillar for regional stability and for preventing the region from becoming fertile ground for chaos or transnational threats.
The President renewed the Republic of Yemen’s strongest condemnation of the grave violations committed by rebel militias in Sudan against civilians, infrastructure, and national institutions. He stressed that targeting civilians, looting property, and destroying public facilities and cities represent serious crimes that undermine civil peace and require accountability under international law.
President Al-Alimi also highlighted the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting national states and safeguarding regional stability. He noted that the Kingdom’s intervention in support of legitimacy in Yemen, its sponsorship of dialogue, and its economic and humanitarian assistance constituted a responsible model in managing regional crises, based on respect for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of states.
He further commended the Kingdom’s efforts to bring viewpoints closer among Sudanese parties, its continued support for Arab unity. Furthermore, he praised the Kingdom’s role in enhancing security in the Red Sea as a strategic corridor for global trade and energy security.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council expressed his aspiration to develop a joint Yemeni–Sudanese bilateral consultation mechanism to exchange expertise in deterring militias, rebuilding institutions after conflict, and restoring control over sovereign resources and maritime ports. He also called for strengthening coordination between the two countries on Red Sea security and combating arms smuggling and organized crime.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Director of the Office of the Presidency; Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Mekhlafi; the Economic Advisor to the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Mr. Louay Al-Eryani, Yemen’s Ambassador to Berlin; and Mr. Ahmed Al-Saleh, Minister of State.
From the Sudanese side, it was attended by Mr. Mohi El-Din Salem, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Ilham Ibrahim, Sudan’s Ambassador to Berlin.
