His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference with Mr. Massad Boulos, the Senior Adviser to the U.S. President for Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs.

The meeting discussed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, as well as the latest developments on the national scene, foremost among them the recent transformations witnessed in Yemen with the support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These developments include the formation of a new government, progress made toward unifying the security and military decision-making structures, strengthening the presence of the state, improving public services, and the required U.S. support to reinforce this path politically, economically, developmentally, and humanitarianly.

The talks also addressed areas of cooperation, coordination, and existing partnership in counterterrorism efforts, as well as deterring the Houthi militias backed by the Iranian regime and terrorist organizations aligned with them.

President Al-Alimi was briefed by the U.S. President’s Senior Adviser on American efforts to deter the Iranian threat and on the course of cooperation with the United States at all levels.

The President expressed his and the Council members’ appreciation for the historic role played by the United States in supporting Yemen’s stability and institution-building. He praised the U.S. position in support of Yemen’s unity and sovereignty and its clear commitment to protecting international navigation in the Red Sea.

His Excellency voiced his aspiration to continue this support, including accelerating the resumption of development and humanitarian programs, strengthening the capacities of the government and the Central Bank to maintain currency stability, and securing essential services. His Excellency added, these services constitute the first line of defense against extremism and militia recruitment.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council affirmed that safeguarding the Yemeni state is not merely an internal matter but a regional and international security issue. He stressed that the central threat continues to be represented by the Iranian project and its armed proxies in the region.

He emphasized that the current phase requires consolidating an equation based on supporting the state rather than parallel entities. He noted that the region is undergoing a moment of strategic reconfiguration and that maximum U.S. pressure on Iran, along with the weakening of its proxies in more than one arena, creates a historic opportunity to end its influence in Yemen.

President Al-Alimi concluded by stating that the success of the Yemeni state would represent the best strategic investment for the security of the Gulf, the Red Sea, and global peace as a whole.
