President Al-Alimi Commends UN Security Council Statement, Reaffirms State’s Commitment to Protect Its Legal Status
Riyadh
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, today Wednesday, received Ms. Catherine Corm-Kammoun, the Ambassador of the French Republic to Yemen, to discuss developments in the local situation, particularly in the eastern governorates. They discussed the role expected of the international community in supporting de-escalation efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the restoration of normal conditions in the governorates of Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra.
During the meeting, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council praised France’s supportive role toward the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, and Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity, as reflected in the statement issued by the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday.
The President renewed his high appreciation for the historic relations with the French Republic and its steadfast stance in support of the Yemeni people and their political leadership in international forums. He expressed confidence in the continuation of this support in line with the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
The meeting also addressed recent developments on the domestic scene and the complex threats facing the efforts of national forces to overthrow the coup by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militias. This comes amid unilateral measures taken by the Southern Transitional Council outside the constitutional framework and the references governing the transitional phase, foremost among them the declaration of power transfer and the Riyadh Agreement.
President Al-Alimi affirmed that the state will fulfill its duties to protect its legal status to the fullest extent, noting that this requires a clearer stance from the international community to support its constitutional and legal measures in this context. He commended the advanced characterization of the current crisis contained in the statement of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
The President warned that any internal fragmentation would strengthen the influence of extremist groups and create security vacuums along one of the world’s most important international shipping lanes. He stressed that the security of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden begins with the stability of the Yemeni state, not with legitimizing parallel entities.
His Excellency clarified that the restraint exercised by the leadership over the past years was not a sign of weakness, but rather a national responsibility and a commitment to consensus and to the efforts of brothers and friends to avoid further violence and prevent the aggravation of the suffering of the Yemeni people.
“President Al-Alimi renewed the Presidential Leadership Council’s commitment to a just solution to the Southern issue in accordance with the popular will, as well as openness to peace, partnerships, and fair political solutions. He firmly rejected the dismantling of the state, the imposition of faits accomplis, and the rewarding of parties that have turned against the governing references of the transitional phase.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency.
