President Al-Alimi Calls for International Coalition to Counter Terrorism of Iran’s Militias in Yemen and the Region
New York
His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, called for the establishment of an effective international Coalition to restore security and stability in Yemen. He stressed the need to rebuild the country’s national institutions and to complete the liberation of the nation from the grip of militias and terrorist groups.
In Yemen’s address before the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the President stressed that it has become imperative to act collectively and decisively in order to impose the long-sought peace in Yemen.
“It is time to launch an international coalition that liberates Yemen from terrorism, rebuilds its national state, and safeguards the region and the world from an escalating cross-border threat,” His Excellency added.
The President emphasized that past years have proven the futility of policies based on “managing the conflict” through further incentives, which have only resulted in greater suffering and destruction. He warned that containment policies merely granted the Houthi militias the time and resources to expand their military arsenal.
His Excellency retreated that it is now evident that the desired peace cannot be pleaded for but must instead be imposed by force.
He reminded the international community that overlooking the core of the Yemeni crisis has emboldened the Houthi militias to escalate their threats against regional peace and stability. They targeted energy sources, international shipping lanes, and even resorted to abduction and mistreatment of United Nations personnel.
The President urged the world to reassess its perception of the Yemeni situation. He noted that, on one side, there exists a broad national front that upholds international legitimacy and embraces the values of partnership and democracy, while on the other stands a sectarian, exclusionary, fascist Group that rejects international law and engages in cross-border terrorism.
He further stressed that the Houthi militias are not merely instruments of war but part of a larger project to redraw Iran’s map of influence in the region. He cautioned that leniency toward this group today would have grave consequences for the future. Tomorrow, the Red Sea and vital waterways could become permanent hostages to a global terrorist organization armed with Iran’s advanced arsenal of ballistic missiles, drones, explosive-laden boats, naval mines, cluster munitions, and other internationally prohibited weapons.
His Excellency affirmed that Yemen is no longer an internal crisis but a test of the credibility of the international system. He stressed that the world must prove that international law is not a myth, that the rules-based order is not a selective call, and that the power of right is still capable of confronting the right of power.
On the Arab front, the President renewed Yemen’s unwavering support for the Palestinian National Authority and the two-state solution, in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
He noted the historic shift witnessed by the Palestinian cause through the sweeping recognition of its independent state. He expressed profound appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its French partners for their commendable efforts in securing these unprecedented political gains.
His Excellency called upon all Member States to recognize the State of Palestine and stand firmly by the rights and dignity of its people. At the same time his excellency firmly rejecting the exploitation of this just cause by militias and their sponsors, who have only brought isolation and devastation upon Palestine.
The President also praised the steadfast stances of the brothers in the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, alongside the Yemeni people. He noted that this coalition has not only prevented the collapse of the Yemeni state but has also shielded the entire region from falling into the grip of the Iranian project.
He added that the Coalition has provided a practical model of strategic partnership founded on development—one that the world must adopt rather than merely observe.
