President Al-Alimi Praises Strong Partnership with Regional and International Community to Protect Maritime Routes
Aden
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, praised the active role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom in hosting and sponsoring Yemen’s Maritime Security Conference, which is convened today, Tuesday, in Riyadh with the participation of more than 40 countries to discuss ways to support the Yemeni Coast Guard and enhance security in the Red Sea.
In a post on the “X” platform, the President said: “ This conference marks the launch of a strategic partnership that strengthens the security of our waterways, reaffirms our strong commitment to combating terrorism and cross-border threats, and safeguards the interests and national security of our people.”
The high-level conference is expected to witness the official launch of the Joint General Secretariat for Maritime Security in Yemen, a new international initiative aimed at strengthening the security of Yemeni waters and combating smuggling, piracy, and human trafficking.
The event will also feature the presentation of a ten-year international strategy to rehabilitate the Yemeni Coast Guard forces.
The conference comes at a time when international navigation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden has been facing continuous attacks by the terrorist Houthi militias since November 2023, primarily targeting global commercial shipping, alongside ongoing risks of drug smuggling and the flow of Iranian weapons to those militias.
