His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of Presidential Leadership Council, accompanied by Council Member Sultan Al-Arada, met today in Riyadh with Mr. Hans Grundberg, the United Nations Special Envoy.

President Al-Alimi welcomed the UN Envoy, commending his recent briefing to the UN Security Council, particularly its focus on the need to de-escalate tensions, improve economic conditions, and secure the release of UN and international organization staff detained by the Houthi militias.

The meeting reviewed the results of Grundberg’s latest consultations and his ongoing efforts, in coordination with the international community, to revive the peace process in line with internationally recognized references that the Houthi militias, with Iranian support, have consistently undermined.

President Al-Alimi reaffirmed the Council’s and the government’s full support for UN-led efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace, based on the three agreed-upon references—nationally, regionally, and internationally, most notably UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

Marking the fourth anniversary of Grundberg’s appointment, the President underscored the Presidential Council’s and the Government’s continued cooperation with all UN, regional, and international initiatives aimed at alleviating humanitarian suffering, despite persistent intransigence and obstruction by the Houthi militias all over the past years.

His Excellency stressed that after years of conflict and mediation, it is now clearer than ever that sustainable peace can only be achieved by addressing the root causes of the crisis—compelling militias to abandon sectarian ideology and dismantle their sectarian and military structures. The President emphasized that the core issue is not technical arrangements, but rather a group that views itself as superior and exploits peace efforts as a tool for political maneuvering rather than as a strategic choice in the interest of the Yemeni people.

Al-Alimi further noted that the responsibility of the United Nations and the international community must go beyond crisis management to creating the necessary conditions for lasting peace, preventing renewed conflict, and ensuring that militias cannot re-establish authoritarian rule under any guise.

He praised the continued unity of the international community on the Yemeni file and the alignment of major powers in the Security Council with Yemen’s position on key issues, including support for the UN inspection mechanism and the addition of a military expert to the UN sanctions committee.

The President also highlighted ongoing Houthi violations of the UN arms embargo and their repeated attempts to delay peace and prolong the conflict, stressing the importance of the UN Envoy’s role in exposing these violations, identifying obstructionist parties, and mobilizing resources to stabilize the national currency and advance economic recovery at all levels.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidency Office.
