His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Sunday, His Excellency Mr. Doh Bong-Kae, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Yemen. They discussed the latest developments in the local situation and bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as opportunities to enhance them across various fields.

President Al-Alimi praised the distinguished Yemeni-Korean relations on their 40th anniversary, commending Korea's supportive stance towards the Yemeni government and people, its active contribution as a temporary member of the Security Council, and its chairmanship of the Yemen Sanctions Committee. He further stressed the importance of adding a military expert to the Committee's membership.

His Excellency addressed the latest developments in the national arena and the government's efforts to alleviate the severity of the humanitarian suffering, which has been exacerbated by terrorist Houthi militia attacks on oil facilities and maritime shipping vessels. He outlined the required international support needed to build upon the notable improvement in the national currency's position, establishing it as a foundation for a more sustainable recovery phase.

His Excellency expressed his aspiration for a greater partnership with the Republic of Korea, particularly in reconstruction, rehabilitation, renewable energy-based electricity generation, water resources, port redevelopment, sanitary drainage networks, public works, and other vital sectors.

In this context, His Excellency acknowledged the role of brotherly countries in the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. This support has enabled the State to continue fulfilling its imperative obligations and mitigate the repercussions of the war and the humanitarian crisis caused by the Iran-backed terrorist Houthi militias.

President Al-Alimi emphasized the importance of Korea's role as a trade-dependent economic power in supporting the capabilities of the Yemeni government to deter any threat to common interests. He stressed that ensuring the security of the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab is not the responsibility of Yemen alone but a shared responsibility among all nations utilizing the commercial services of this vital shipping lane.

His Excellency praised the unity of the international community regarding the Yemen file, calling for increased pressure on the Houthi militias and their supporters. He urged alignment with the decision to designate them as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and to support the UN inspection mechanism in implementing the arms embargo.

For his part, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea affirmed his country’s support for the Presidential Leadership Council, the Yemeni government, and the Yemeni people, endorsing their aspirations for security, stability, and peace. He reiterated that this support aligns with the references of the comprehensive solution in Yemen, particularly in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

The Korean Ambassador reviewed the areas of cooperation between the two friendly nations since the establishment of their diplomatic relations in August 1985, extending to their promising future prospects. He highlighted Korea's engagement in addressing the needs of the Yemeni people through humanitarian response plans and mitigating water crises in several Yemeni governorates.
