President of the Presidential Leadership Council Receives U.S. Special Envoy

His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, accompanied by Council Member, Othman Mujali, met today, Monday, with Mr. Timothy Lenderking, the U.S. Special Envoy for Yemen and Mr. Steven Fagin, the U.S. Ambassador to Yemen.

The meeting touched upon the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to enhance them in various fields. Discussions included the U.S. support needed for the Yemeni economy, improving living conditions, and mitigating the humanitarian consequences of the terrorist Houthi militia’s attacks on oil facilities and international shipping lines.

The President was briefed by the U.S. envoy on potential regional and international developments in light of the U.S. election results, as well as recent efforts to de-escalate tensions. The envoy outlined options for pushing the Houthi militia to engage seriously with goodwill efforts aimed at launching a comprehensive political process under the auspices of the United Nations.

In this context, the President reaffirmed the Council and the government’s commitment to a comprehensive and just peace process based on agreed national, regional, and international references, particularly Security Council Resolution 2216.

His Excellency expressed his appreciation for the United States’ support for the Yemeni people and their legitimate leadership, including humanitarian and development interventions in various sectors. He also stressed the importance of intensifying international efforts to enforce the Security Council resolution on banning arms exports to the terrorist Houthi militias.

The meeting was attended by Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, the Director of the Presidential Leadership Council’s Office.
