The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council receives the UN Special Envoy for Yemen in Aden
Aden:
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Wednesday, at the Ma’ashiq Palace in the interim capital, Aden, the United Nations Special Envoy, Hans Grundberg, and his assistant, Moeen Shrim, to discuss developments in the Yemeni file and the international efforts coordinated with brothers and friends to revive the peace path in the country.
During the meeting, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, with the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mohammed Al-Shaddadi, listened to a briefing from the UN Special Envoy on the results of his recent meetings at the local and regional levels.
In this context, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the efforts of the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, based on their early peace initiatives in 2021, and the importance of building on them to push the Houthi terrorist militia to deal seriously with regional and international endeavors to launch a comprehensive political process led by the United Nations.
The President welcomed the recent statement of the UN Security Council, in which he called on the parties to engage in good faith in peace efforts, and stressed the need for any negotiation process to be based on the agreed references, in particular the relevant Security Council resolutions.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council affirmed the commitment of the Council and the government to support the endeavors of the United Nations Special Envoy, regional and international mediators, and all initiatives aimed at ending human suffering and achieving the legitimate aspirations of the Yemeni people to restore state institutions, peace, stability and development.
His Excellency the President called on the international community to increase pressure on the Houthi militia to fulfill its obligations related to the file of detainees under the Stockholm Agreement. In addition to the recent understandings that stress the exchange of visits to detention facilities, and to reveal the fate of thousands of abductees and those hidden in militia prisons, in the forefront of which is Mohammed Qahtan, who is covered by the UN Security Council resolution.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council stated that the Houthi militia was not ready for the peace option, without regard for the worsening suffering, which was clearly evident in the painful stampede disaster in Sana'a that claimed the lives of dozens of poor people looking for any humanitarian aid to survive.
The President also warned the international community of the danger of continuing to ignore the unilateral actions of the militias and their gross violations of human rights, which encouraged them to mobilize more than a million children into mobilizing sectarian camps to glorify wars and incite against the values and principles of peace, moderation, and coexistence that Yemenis have known throughout history.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Iqbal Bahadur.
