President Al-Alimi makes a call to Tariq Saleh to review the effects of climate change on the West Coast

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, made a telephone call today, Wednesday, to Tariq Saleh, the Council member, to follow up on the developments of the rainy climate change that hit the governorates of Hodeidah and Hajjah, and the coastal districts of Taiz Governorate during the past hours, causing great losses in lives and property.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council was briefed by the Council member on a report about the procedures and measures coordinated with the government and local authorities, including the humanitarian cell affiliated with the National Resistance Forces in the West Coast region to provide relief and aid to those affected by the torrential rains and floods. The rainy storm led to the fall of dozens of victims, and caused massive destruction to public and private property, agricultural holdings, infrastructure, and basic services.

The member of the Presidential Leadership Council explained that contacts are ongoing between the authorities and the relevant relief agencies, with the Office of the United Nations Special Envoy to enable relief organizations to provide the necessary humanitarian assistance and interventions to those affected in areas under the control of the Houthi militias.

His Excellency the President expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, and his wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured, and the safe return of the missing.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the role of the relevant authorities in the West Coast region in mitigating the impact of the disaster, stressing the importance of doubling coordinated efforts with regional and international organizations to provide more aid, rescue operations, and assistance to the affected families.

The call touched upon the urgent interventions required by government institutions, primarily the Ministry of Public Works and its affiliated institutions, to open roads, resume the operation of basic services, and begin rehabilitating the destroyed infrastructure.
