President Al-Alimi receives UN special envoy for Yemen
His Excellency, President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Saturday, at Maashiq Presidential Palace, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, in the presence of Prime Minister Ahmad Bin Mubarak.
President Al- Alimi was briefed by the UN envoy on the outcomes of his contacts and recent tour in the region, in addition to the latest developments of his coordinated efforts with the brothers and friends to resume a comprehensive Yemeni political process under the auspices of the UN.
The meeting touched upon developments in the Yemeni situation and the international required pressures to push the Houthi militias to deal seriously with peace efforts, aimed at ending the suffering of the Yemeni people, and restoring their legitimate institutions.
The president of the Presidential Leadership Council reiterated the Council and the government’s support for the efforts of the United Nations, and its Special Envoy, in addition to providing all the facilities required to fulfill UN’s Special Envoy duties and responsibilities covered by international legitimacy resolutions, especially Resolution 2216.
The President noted the importance of the UN mediator’s focus on actions not words of the Houthi militias and their Iranian supporters. That would verify their seriousness in dealing with peace efforts, including ending Taiz's siege, ending restrictions on funds, goods and employees' salaries, stopping their escalation and terrorist attacks on civilian objects and facilities, adding to that their grave human rights violations.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic.
