President inspects areas hit by the tropical cyclone

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, inspected today, Thursday, some areas affected by the tropical storm, torrential and heavy rains that struck Al-Mahara Governorate last Monday and Tuesday.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with the Governor of Al-Mahara Governorate, Mohammed Ali Yasser, were briefed on the damage to infrastructure, public roads, and bridges in the areas of Nishtun, Al Anfak, and the Fartak Mountains. His Excellency was briefed on the ongoing efforts to open alternative routes to facilitate the movement of citizens and goods through the Al-Mahara districts, which witnessed a wave of torrential winds and torrential rains which were the worst in the history of the governorate.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council visited Al Anfak area on the international road extending to neighboring countries, where His Excellency directed the concerned authorities to perform rapid opening of the strategic road that was closed by the remnants of torrential rains and heavy landslides.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council spoke to citizens along the road, and listened to their suffering and their necessary requirements in the midst of the disaster.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council was briefed by the Minister of Public Works and Roads, Engineer Salem Al-Aboudi, and social figures from the affected areas, on clarifications about the required government interventions, and the measures taken to rehabilitate the destroyed infrastructure in accordance with the approved standards and specifications, and to ensure its efficiency to withstand the effects of climate changes in various circumstances.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council held a new meeting this morning, Thursday, with the Governor of Al-Mahara Governorate, Mohammed Ali Yasser, and the Emergency Committee concerned with confronting the effects of the tropical cyclone, in the presence of the Commander of the Saudi Duty Force 804, Brigadier General Faisal Al-Hujaili.

The meeting approved the emergency relief interventions in Huswain District, which was flooded by torrential floods, and some of its areas were isolated far from services, as the most affected towns of the governorate by the hurricane.

The approved interventions included flying helicopters to transport food supplies, medical evacuation, opening roads, and resuming the operation of basic services, leading to normalization of the situation with the support of brothers and friends, relief agencies and the humanitarian community.

During the tour, His Excellency the President was accompanied by Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, the Director of the Office of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, the First Undersecretary of Al-Mahara Governorate, Mukhtar bin Awaid, the Assistant Undersecretary, Mohammed Raafit, and a number of officials in the governorate.
