President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, welcomed the agreement reached today for the release of 1,750 detainees. He described it as the largest exchange process within the state’s commitments to close this painful humanitarian file.

In a post on his account on the “X” platform, President Al-Alimi described the agreement as “a moment of joy and hope, good news ahead of Eid al-Adha, and a renewed opportunity to uphold humanitarian and religious values, reunite families, and end suffering.”

On behalf of himself, the members of the Presidential Leadership Council, and the government, the President expressed sincere appreciation for the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in helping secure the breakthrough.

President Al-Alimi also commended the efforts of the Office of the UN Special Envoy, the brotherly countries of Jordan and Oman, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the government negotiating team, and all those who contributed to what he described as a historic agreement.

Earlier today, Thursday, the government negotiating delegation on the detainees’ file announced that an agreement had been reached for the release of around 1,750 detainees from all parties, including 27 members of the Arab Coalition forces.

The government team said the agreement was the outcome of a negotiation process launched in the Omani capital, Muscat on December 11, 2025, under the principle of “all for all.” It added that the efforts culminated in the signing of the lists and implementation mechanism, in a step described as a genuine breakthrough and tangible progress in this complex humanitarian issue.
