Presidency of the Republic Mourns to Yemeni People Veteran National Figure Ali Salem Al-Beidh

The Presidency of the Republic mourned, with profound sorrow and deep grief, to the Yemeni people, the passing of former Vice President of the Presidential Council and prominent national struggler Ali Salem Al-Beidh. Al-Beidh passed away today, Saturday, after a life rich in struggle and sincere dedication in the service of his homeland and people, and their progress and prosperity.

The following is the text of the statement:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

“And give good tidings to the patient, Who, when disaster strikes them, say, Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return. Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.”

 “Allah, the Almighty, has spoken the truth.”

With profound sorrow and deep grief, the Presidency of the Republic of Yemen mourns to all great Yemeni people the passing of its devoted son, the courageous national struggler Ali Salem Al-Beidh, former Vice President of the Presidential Council and former Secretary-General of the Central Committee of the Yemeni Socialist Party. Al-Beidh passed away today, Saturday, 17 January 2026, at the age of eighty-six.

With the passing of the great national figure Ali Salem Al-Beidh, the nation has lost one of the most prominent leaders and political symbols in Yemen’s modern history. The nation has lost a sincere partner in achieving the historic accomplishment of Yemeni unity on 22 May 1990, embodying at the time the aspirations of Yemenis for a single state founded on national partnership and the rule of law.

As the leadership of the state recalls this important chapter in the history of our people, it highlights the virtues of the late statesman and his major roles of national struggle at the forefront of the national movement that accomplished the project of statehood and glorious independence.

The passing of the struggler Ali Salem Al-Beidh not only recalls the bright chapters of an honest national figure. It also opens the door to responsible reflection on the course of the national movement and the lessons of equitable partnership to which the late Al-Beidh remained committed. Moreover, it underscores the importance of addressing national issues through institutional frameworks and dialogue, in a manner that preserves the dignity of Yemenis, safeguards their sacrifices, and lays the foundation for the bright future they all deserve.

On this grievous occasion, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, together with his fellow members of the Council and the government, extends sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the family of the deceased, his comrades, and loved ones. His Excellency prayed that Almighty Allah grant the deceased His vast mercy, admit him into His spacious Paradise, and bestow patience and solace upon his family and relatives.

The Presidency of the Republic also announces official mourning, flags to be flown at half-mast for three days, and the opening of condolence registers at home and abroad on the passing of the great late figure.
