His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Tuesday, a delegation from the European Parliament led by Mr. David McAllister, Chair of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

During the meeting, President Al-Alimi welcomed the European delegation and briefed them on the latest developments in Yemen, particularly the international measures necessary to address the ongoing threats posed by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias to international peace and security.

His Excellency praised the European Union’s strong commitment to supporting the Yemeni people and their legitimate leadership, as well as its significant humanitarian and developmental interventions across various sectors.

President Al-Alimi presented the vision of the Council and the government for effective collaboration with the international community to eliminate terrorist threats, starting with redefining the Houthis as a persistent threat to regional and global security.

He emphasized the importance of exerting maximum pressure on Iran and its destructive proxies in the region, and strategically investing in shifting the balance of power on the ground in support of the UN-member state.

He reaffirmed the Council’s and the government’s keenness to develop a strategic partnership with the international community across all levels to build a joint deterrent framework against the Houthis’ terrorist behavior and to compel them to submit to the will of the Yemeni people and international legitimacy—by peace or by force.

The President also pointed to the early collaboration between the Houthi militias and terrorist organizations in the Horn of Africa and its implications for international peace and security, stressing that restoring security in the Red Sea region begins with its southern shores. This, he noted, requires comprehensive arrangements on both sides of the Bab al-Mandeb strait.

He ruled out any genuine intention by Tehran to alter its destructive behavior, asserting that Iran continues to pursue long-term goals aimed at regional expansion. He described any Iranian response to de-escalation or engagement in negotiations—particularly concerning its nuclear program—as nothing more than deceptive tactics to retain its sources of power and resume its hostile policies.

President Al-Alimi reiterated that Yemen remains the key testing ground for Iran’s intentions and behavior, and that eliminating the Houthi terrorist threat will only be achieved through a strategic defeat that strips them of their sources of power—namely, money, territory, and weapons. He stressed that this requires urgent investment in the current moment and mobilization of all resources to support the Yemeni government in fully asserting its control over national territory.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, Mr. Gabriel Munuera Viñales, the EU Ambassador to Yemen, and a number of officials from both sides.
